Turkey and Crete

Here is the final part of our European trip! After Athens we hopped on the cruise and went to Ephesus, Turkey and Crete. We were so sad to have to leave our trip, but there's always something nice about sleeping in your own bed after 10 days in a hotel.

Turkey was amazzing. Definitely our favorite destination on our cruise itinerary. It was so fun going to an ancient town where parts of the Bible were written. It was also where John took Mary after Jesus died. He built her a house and she spent the rest of her life there. Jeffrey pointed out that, though Rome is exceptionally old, it continued on as a city and modern buildings were built around it. The unique part of Ephesus is that it is still surrounded by the same hilly terrain as it was in 40 AD. The town felt like a little time capsule that maintained much of its original beauty over the years. The buildings were all well-kept, the road had its original marble stones, even the toilets were still perfectly in tact! It was amazing, and we highly recommend it to anyone who is interested.

Crete was a perfect way to end the trip. After days of walking and sight-seeing, we were happy to sit and enjoy a long lunch on the water before leaving. Sorry that this has drawn out so long, but hopefully you enjoyed our pictures! :)

*A funny side note: Jeffrey and I are walking around the ancient town of Ephesus when a random guy runs up and hugs Jeffrey. It turns out Jeffrey's mission friend was with the BYU Jerusalem center and they happened to be in Ephesus the same day! They were supposed to be in Egypt but it was too dangerous so they headed up to Turkey. A funny little coincidence.*
